Seafarms -- the company that has famously set out to build Australia's biggest shrimp farm -- is already in the game and currently owns and operates three farms at Cardwell and Ingham and a hatchery near Innisfail on Australia’s northeast coast.
It produces two species of shrimp -- black tiger shrimp (Penaeaus monodon) and the banana prawn (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis).
“The combination gives us ideal opportunities to supply the domestic market,” Executive Director Chris Mitchell told IntraFish. “Locally there is strong demand for the banana prawn which is a very sweet species and is well known as a crystal bay prawn.”
