Operating since 1976, Santa Priscila is currently Ecuador’s largest shrimp producer, but unlike other producers in the country it chooses to farm near the ocean rather than in the mangroves.

In total Santa Priscila has four groups of farms, Santiago Salem, president of the company, told IntraFish.

The company started business 40 years ago and, according to Salem, Santa Priscila has a unique model compared with other shrimp companies in Ecuador, predominantly in terms of location.

While the vast majority of shrimp farms in Ecuador are located around Guayaquil in the flat, mangrove areas by the Rio Guayas river’s delta -- where there is brackish water -- Santa Priscila’s farms are located on the “ocean side."
