Kaliningrad-based Yantar shipyard laid the keel of the first 50-meter purse seiner/trawl vessel in its history, marking the start of construction of a vessel type not built in the country in over two decades.
Kamchatka-based V. Lenin Fishing Collective Farm signed a contract with the shipyard on Jan. 22 to build three new purse seine and pelagic trawlers -- all of which will be commissioned in the second half of 2018.
It is the first fishing vessel of its kind built on the domestic shipyard in more than 20 years.
