Community-supported fisheries, or CSFs, are not just for individual consumers anymore. Restaurants, retailers, universities and health-care providers are among an evolving and growing customer-base for seafood produced by these grassroots programs that link fishermen directly to local markets.
In a typical CSF, customers pre-pay for a “season” of fresh, local seafood caught by local fishermen (see video below). The fish are provided to customers in “shares” throughout the year as the catch is brought in.
Some CSFs ship product to customers, but the majority offer locations where CSF members come to pick up their fish.
