The vessel is owned by Alaska Ocean Seafood in Anacortes, Wash. In 1990, the company commissioned the 376-foot catcher/processor for harvesting and processing pollock and Pacific whiting.
History Channel production crews traveled with the Alaska Ocean during its last trip of the 2007 Alaska pollock fishing season to document the inner workings of the vessel.
The program features the daily hunt for Alaska pollock in the Bering Sea, harvesting and freezing the fish at sea, and the challenges faced by Captain Scott Symonds and his crew of 150, including weather, mechanical difficulties and tracking the wily pollock.
