“I’m always optimistic,” said Colin MacDonald, CEO and chairman at Clearwater Seafoods, Canada’s largest shrimp exporter.

“You just can’t be in this business without a great deal of optimism. You’ve got so many challenges in front of you: whether it’s the resource, mechanical breakdowns, the marketplace or irrational competition," he said. "This industry is very complex with a lot of hurdles to cover every year.”

This year, all those problems have come at once, though with mechanical failure supplanted by strike action in Newfoundland.
