The shrimp comes in 140 gram, single-serving portions that sell for under 1, a size the company said will attract new customers to the idea of eating shrimp as a snack or side dish.
Cumbrian said it was asked by Tesco to improve its products’ carbon footprints.
In response it designed a new shape and material for the shrimp’s packaging, which the company says will save 21 tons of raw material each year against current volumes, and allows for the stacking of an extra 8,000 items per pallet.
