German discounter Aldi Sud introduced a new range of chilled modified atmosphere packaged (MAP) fish on Sept. 1 throughout all its regional stores -- a first for the retail chain.

The range includes a salmon fillet, cod fillet and a defrosted Alaska pollock fillet, in addition to a MAP-packed mussels item and a matjes fillet, a spokesperson at the company told IntraFish.

In addition, Aldi Sud is testing plaice in some of its regional branches. Dutch supplier Profish Food has fetched the contract for the new assortment.
