Turkish seabass and seabream producer Kilic is opening a new chapter in its aquaculture operations, and is aiming to become the first firm to commercially farm and sell bluefin tuna, Sinan Kiziltan, executive VP at the company, told IntraFish.
The plans became public this week, after the company snapped up two aquaculture facilities' licenses and assets of Turkish canned seafood producer Dardanel Onentans in a deal worth €2.6 million ($2.95 million), plus VAT.
Kilic has been running a bluefin tuna farming pilot facility, including a hatchery, in the Bodrum area for about two years now and is finally ready to embark on the commercial path, Kiziltan said.
