The American Scallop Association (ASA) announced Friday its members have agreed to a pledge of economic integrity to ensure the fair labeling of fresh, frozen, domestic and foreign scallops in the marketplace.

The group is establishing a system to self-police its members and, more importantly, to pressure companies that are proven to be selling fraudulent product.

“We’re letting all scallop suppliers know that the leaders of the scallop industry won’t tolerate cheating any longer,” Ross Paasche, president of ASA, told IntraFish. "When fraud surfaces, it will be addressed and it won’t be addressed lightly.”
