Global demand for wellboats is rising, Solvtrans said, especially for “larger, more effective” and greener wellboats.
This is partly a result of the market’s consolidation; as salmon and trout producers have merged and grown larger, transport distances from fish farms to harvesting plants have also increased in recent years, Solvtrans said.
As a result, “the 15 largest players in the market represent 60 percent of the total production, or approximately 1.4 million metric tons,” Solvtrans said.
The demand itself is visible in Solvtrans’ latest results; according to these, the company has contracted most of its wellboat capacity up to 2012.
