Turkey’s concerted efforts in modernizing its aquaculture industry is bearing rich fruits -- it has seen spectacular growth in bass and bream production in the past ten years, and industry players say that the government is very supportive of the sector, exemplified by it subsidizing TRY 0.85 (€0.36/ $0.47) of every kilo of fish sold through invoices.
On a recent trip to Turkey, FFI found out that this growth story is punctuated with certain concerns -- for example, that this is not homogenous in terms of species and regions, and the tourism sector has forced many inshore farms to pack up.
