Florida-based MKG Provisions, now UpRiver Aquaculture, a supplier to St. James Smokehouse, was sentenced in US federal court Wednesday for violating the Lacey Act and falsely labeling its salmon, according to the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

The company pled guilty to a single count information, which charged the company with falsely labeling Chilean farmed salmon as a "product of Scotland" in 2012, an act that is prohibited under the Lacey Act.

It was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a $50,000 (€43,934) fine.
