Peter Redmond, vice president and divisional merchandise manager of deli and seafood and the man credited with leading Wal-Mart to embrace sustainable seafood through the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC) eco-label program, has accepted a new position within Wal-Mart focusing on sustainable product sourcing for the retailer, Redmond told IntraFish on Monday.

No replacement for Redmond has yet been named, a Wal-Mart source told IntraFish.

Wal-Mart sent shockwaves throughout the seafood and grocery industries in early 2006 when it announced plans to purchase all of its wild-caught fresh and frozen fish for the United States market from MSC-certified fisheries within the next three to five years.
